Washed my notebook! Getting ready for a digital new year

This year I will test drive and embrace new digital tools – boosting my PMTQ in the process.  Become what PMI defines as a “PMTQ Innovator” and not a laggard.

Perhaps you’re asking – what does it mean to be a PMTQ Innovator?  The acronym stands for Project Management Technology Quotient and, “Is a person’s ability to adapt, manage and integrate technology based on the needs of the organization or the project at hand.”1  Use the classic definition of “innovator” and you get the idea.  A PMTQ Innovator employs new ways of working for an increasing digital world.

According to PMI’s 2019 Pulse of the Profession, “For anyone charged with making strategy reality in a world constantly being remodeled by tech, PMTQ will be the must-have, make-or-break skill set.”  PMI, you have my attention.

Now I’d like to share the first new digital way of working, a tool which increases one’s PMTQ, that I’m BEYOND thrilled to discuss.  Ever recall a handwritten note you took but couldn’t find the reference in your paper notebook? Information that gets buried and filed away never to be seen again? — The Rocketbook Everlast digital notebook may be the solution for the misplaced handwritten references in your paper notebook, that you’re looking for!

Perhaps your curious – why is she washing her notebook?  I purchased an executive-size Rocketbook Everlast notebook at the end of last year to try something new during my general note taking activities. Last year’s test drive is over and now I’m ready to bring this digital notebook into prime time. Washing my Rocketbook Everlast digital notebook for the first full week of 2020 energizes me for the new year ahead.

The Rocketbook notebook is designed to look and feel similar to a traditional paper notebook with the ability to wipe off the pages with a bit of water and cloth.  Before you wash the pages, all of the handwriting and drawings are captured through the Rocketbook smartphone app and can be sent to a number of widely used applications.  My top favorite destinations for handwritten notes are OneNote, Box, and email.  This process enables handwritten notes to become digitally searchable!

Depending on your information security needs, whether it is your company policy or personal preference, the Rocketbook app has different approaches to forwarding your handwritten information.  One way is for the Rocketbook app to OCR scan your handwriting first before sending to a destination (OneNote, Box).  Another way is to use the Rocketbook app to create a PDF of your handwritten notes and for you to send the PDF to an email address.

I do the later by sending directly to my email, open the PDF with NitroPDF, run the OCR function, add PDF plain text into my OneNote or create a new Box file.  Depending on how legible my handwriting is on the page before scanning, the OCR accuracy is roughly 75-95% of the original handwriting.  Not bad for not having typed a single word!

Once the handwritten notes are successfully transferred via the smartphone app for digital safekeeping, the Rocketbook Everlast notebook can be “washed” and the notebook reused over and over again. Do your part in saving the environment – think of all those precious trees no longer needed for volumes of your paper notebooks!

So if you’re looking for an efficient, sustainable, environmentally-friendly way to capture your conversation or meeting notes in 2020 and elevate your PMTQ, I highly recommend you take a look at the Rocketbook Everlast digital notebook and combine the smart technology with your favorite notes applications.

Best of luck in your projects, continued happiness, health and well-being for the New Year.
